Breast Augmentation or Enlargement (Augmentation Mammaplasty)

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the size of a woman’s breasts. It is also known as augmentation mammaplasty. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to enlarge or symmetrically improve the appearance of your breasts. Breast augmentation can be accomplished by either transferring fat from another part of your body or, more popularly, by surgically placing breast implants.

    Possible Causes

Age and gravity are the primary causes for your breast sagging. Smoking is another reason as it causes the elastin to break down in the body. Elastin fibers are responsible for skin elasticity. Apart from this, major weight loss may also make your breasts appear stretched.

    Risk Factors

The breast augmentation procedure poses several risks, such as:

    • Breast pain
    • Infection
    • No sensation in breasts or nipples
    • Implant position may change
    • In rare scenarios, the implants may leak

    Signs and Symptoms

Individuals opt for breast augmentation due to various reasons, including:

    • Increase naturally small breasts.
    • Restore the size and shape of breast post-pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss.
    • Restore symmetry in case of asymmetrical breasts.
    • Restore the breast/s post-surgery.

    Diagnosis

Preoperative tests before breast augmentation surgery include routine blood and urine tests, chest X-rays, and ECG. You may need a baseline mammogram before your surgery. If you are on aspirin or any other blood thinners, your doctor may adjust certain medicines.

    Treatment Options at 7DMC

We, at 7DMC plastic surgery clinic, strive to raise the bar for cosmetic services. Keeping you safe and healthy is one of our greatest concerns. Our pre-and post-operative care is completely tailored so you can have a one-of-a-kind service that meets your cosmetic aspirations.

Before the procedure, our surgeon, Dr. Georgia Vadarli assists you in determining the size of the implant that is required. The procedure is done under general anesthesia, so you will not experience pain. In the 24 hours leading up to your treatment, follow our surgeon’s guidelines for preparation. Our surgeon will insert your breast implants through one of three incision options:

    • Inframammary, done beneath your breast.
    • Axillary, in the underarm.
    • Periareolar, around the nipples.

The surgeon then separates your breast tissue from your chest muscles and tissue to create a space. In these spaces, your implants are positioned in the center of your breasts. Once our surgeon has successfully inserted your implants, your cuts are sewed up and secured with surgical tape and adhesive. As soon as the anesthetic wears off enough, you’ll be free to go home after being watched in the recovery area.

A compression bandage or sports bra is likely to be recommended by our surgeon following your breast augmentation treatment to give you the support you need during recuperation. They may also prescribe pain medication. Our surgeon also suggests when you can return to regular job and leisure activities after your recovery period. You may need a week off from work to recover. Physically demanding jobs may require extra time off from work to recuperate.

Sports and physical activity should be avoided for at least two weeks. Keep your blood pressure and pulse low during the first several days after invasive surgery. Apart from that, a lot of movement may cause your breasts to ache. To remove stitches that don’t dissolve on their own or drainage tubes attached to your breasts, you’ll need to make an appointment with our surgeon for a follow-up session.

Our surgeon must be consulted if you experience breast or armpit pain after healing and any changes in breast size or shape. Healthy living is essential after surgery. If you smoke, quit smoking as a smoker’s body takes longer to heal.

    FAQs

    Frequently asked questions

An implant is a medical device that is installed within the breast to enhance, regenerate, or establish the definite shape of the breast. Breast implants are classified into three types:

Saline implants – Sterile saline solution, similar to saltwater, is used to fill these implants. The amount of solution may vary depending on the breast’s firmness, feel, and shape.

Silicone gel-filled implants – This contains silicone gel-filled in a silicone outer shell.

Alternate composite implants – Polypropylene string, soy oil, or another material could be used to fill these types of implants.

Even though breast augmentation is considered major surgery, it can be considered minimally invasive when done under the muscles. Thus, it may not require an extensive healing period.

Protect your breasts from getting breasts wet for a week, even while bathing. Do not smoke unless your doctors allow you. Smoking negatively impacts your body’s healing process. Do not wear an underwire bra as it may prevent your implants from settling correctly.
